This a beautifully told story of a young girl, who's life is destined to take some dramatic turns of fortune. Death by Adaptation: When Sara's father is revealed to be alive, it's explained that his business partner died and was mistaken for him. The 1985 TV series by Nippon Animation has a similar title in Japanese, although the two adaptations are not related.

Shōkōjo Seira, a 2009 remake with the main character Japanese and named Seira, aged 16 when her father dies, and as an Indian Princess. Her family and friends are eager to give their advice, but the Little Princess has an unexpected idea of her own! She has always enjoyed pretending, weaving stories for herself and the other children at the school, but also play-acting roles for herself and her doll. Darkest Hour: When Sara's attic party is caught and Sara is subjugated to another day without food, and Sara glumly tries to sleep to dream of something nice.
