The remote is easy to use and easy to hold – though it’s a bit long, so handling it with one hand means you’ll have to keep sliding back and forth. That also has a pro-level of shuttle control, never again seen, instant forwards/backwards at any speed, ah the good old days. The casing is the same shape as the T3 but slightly larger, which may affect placement options, and the supplied mains lead could usefully be longer. You can also access the streaming apps directly – most of them require free registration, though you’re better off registering on your PC or phone, and then just sign-in on the TV. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

You can scan backwards through the seven-day electronic programme guide (EPG), which presents six channels at once in two-hour chunks. They include the BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV Play, CBS Catch-up, Horror Bites, PopPlayer, STV Player and BBC Sounds (live radio and podcasts). The usual features you might be used to on your Sky/BT/Virgin Media box – such as pausing live TV for up to two hours, initiating series links and making one-touch recordings – work like a breeze.

Exclusive: The popular Manhattan T3-R Freeview recording box is being discontinued, with a new, advanced model – the T4-R – coming later this year. And unfortunately, that can also be said for most of the other set-top Freeview boxes out there – they’re slow… and doing anything on the device takes ages (or at least it feels that way, with the speed of technology that we’re used to these days).

So, in a bid to combine fitness with frugality, I've rounded up 20 ways you can exercise and get fit without spending a penny, both outdoors and at home. I have changed a sound setting so now at least have audio but is there something I should be doing to get better sound? Manhattan sent us two boxes to test the Wi-Fi performance after our original review encountered issues with it.Designed in the UK by Manhattan, the T3-R combines Freeview TV (over 85 channels) with on-demand streaming apps including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5 and UKTV Play, as well as YouTube and YouTube Kids. So at this point, if your TV doesn’t have an HDMI port, I would say it’s time to upgrade (or otherwise not get the T3-R for the time being). It also allows the adding of content scheduled to broadcast in the future, as well as the setting of reminders.

Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest.Next comes the Freeview part, and assuming you have an aerial connected, the T3-R will start scanning for Freeview channels (both TV and radio stations). So to summarise, if you watch a lot of programmes on Freeview channels, and you’re looking to upgrade your experience with a faster interface, the ability to record shows, and a convenient integration with the UK’s popular catch-up apps, the T3-R fits the bill. I've never used a T3-R but what impressed me was that Manhattan were actively developing and supporting it.
