Description

Designed for athletes in the 70’s, the SL shoe was created during a pivotal era for athletics and adopted by change-makers of the time. adidas Originals first released the SL silhouette in 1972. Chinese designer Angel Chen, contestant of Netflix’s Next in Fashion, has long-fostered an adidas partnership. Though quite a while since her last capsule, the young talent is finally ready to offer a trio of new offerings, each accented at their tooling with decorative teeth.

The adidas SL7600 are set to surface on our shoresvery soon so in preparation for their arrival and to show off some of their best bits, we thought we would share some words on what is sure to bean instant footwearclassic. Adidas SL7600 SneakersReleased several years after its original counterpart, the SL 80 silhouette takes a similar design approach to the SL 72 model, but with a handful of stylistic and technical updates. Not only can an authentic jagged traction outsole be found to improve on-foot grip but an EVA midsole sees its already superior cushioning properties bolstered by a selection of comforting BOOST foam inserts. Finished with a branded tongue and tonal three striped sides, the SL7600 is a true homage to some of the key defining moments in adidas history, highlighting pivotal moments in the brand’s past and perhaps making nods to their not so distant future. Though they often employ experimental techniques, adidas generally ties such designs to a certain theme or campaign — be it Maker’s Lab or the bespoke Campus workshop led by three of the industry’s most talented artisans. Ostensibly borrowing from those creatives — specifically Helen Kirkum and Japan’s Recouture — the Three Stripes is patchworking together a retro inspired runner dubbed the SL 7600, a silhouette that fine tunes its series’ aesthetics with a paneling relatively true to form. As such, suede toes apply themselves along the upper in their typical manner, sitting atop a nylon base accented with the signature logos that cross down here in red strips. Elsewhere, heel wraps match that of the forefoot’s more visibly intricate texture, keeping in line with the vintage framework unlike that of the lace unit whose piecemeal components remind more of the EQT family. And, with further nod to Frankenstein, the imprint has melded a small trim of BOOST to the heel of the classic spiked tooling. Grab a detailed look here and expect to find pairs available right now at only a select set of retailers. Utilising a robust array of stellar three stripped source material, adidas’ next addition to their featherweight family comes in the form of the SL7600. As forward thinkingin name as they are in construction, the sneakers mix a best of both worlds culmination of vintage old school class, cutting-edge ingenuity and on-trend multi-faceted design that is sure to please even the most traditionalist of trefoil fanatic. As the age-old saying goes you can never have too much of a good thing, and adidas’ Super Light lineup is the perfect example. Originally conceived during the ’70s to service the needs of athletes taking part in the Munich Olympics, not only was the SL series responsible forsupplying the goods when it came to the age-old question of weight vs performance, but it held its own in an era long turf war with arguably some of the fiercest competition in running history.
