As Boorstein has discovered in more than three decades of practice as a professional psychotherapist, the secret to happiness lies in actively cultivating our capacity to connect with kindness: with ourselves; with friends, family, colleagues; with those we may not know well; and even with those we may not like. She draws from the heart of Buddhist teachings to show how Wise Effort, Wise Mindfulness, and Wise Concentration can lead us away from anger, anxiety, and confusion, and into calmness, clarity, and the joy of living in the present. These qualities strengthen our ability to meet encounters of every kind with balance and intelligence, providing us with a grounded sense of true contentment. According to ‘ Authentic Happiness’, discovering authentic happiness can lead to new, sustainable joy, meaning, and contentment in aspects of life such as work, relationships, and parenting. This book, described as groundbreaking, heart-lifting and extremely useful, explains that happiness can be learned, or, in other words ‘cultivated’. It’s never too late to start embracing your truth. Drop out of your head and into your heart and ask yourself, “What makes me come alive inside?” I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. There were a lot of good ideas that stopped me in my tracts, for instance the idea of us having "scripts" which we try to rewrite after a situation is over and nothing can be done to change how it happened, some people will still try and relive it over and over in their mind about what they could have said, why did that person say that, should haves, etc. I do that and it's a horrible waste of time. She also talked about the five hindrances which she described as fatigue, worry, doubt, lust (or desire), and anger as the ways which we are prone to first respond to situations. That was a light on in my head for sure. I identified with and wanted to know more about this topic for sure.

It takes courage to wake up every day and be who you really are, especially in a world that is constantly trying to mold you into somebody else. These negative messages only take you farther away from your authentic self. Other notable interests of Maxime are health (mental and physical), meditation, bananas, SEO, human potential, and education. About 8 years ago, my inner guidance asked me to write a book. Putting my thoughts and ideas out into the world brought up so much self-doubt — that I was almost frozen in fear. But I couldn’t say no because the Yes cells in my body was screaming “YES, do it!” Jonathan Haidt is a psychology teacher at the University of Virginia. I then consciously spend the day in appreciation of all things around me. As I sit writing this blog, there is a man sitting across from me with bright pink hair, that is definitely making me smile? According to Professor Gilbert, people don’t know how to predict what will please our future selves. ‘ Stumbling on Happiness’ sees Gilbert explain how our brains predict the future and explore whether the brain is able to imagine what it will enjoy. Our brains are wired to be negative, but the good news is that you can train your brain to hold on to happiness. For years, we have been taught that being Happy comes is an outside: by working long hours, striving, achieving, and being “successful.”Your YES place is guided by your highest self (the you were born with) and is present in your life when your mind, body, heart, and soul are balanced and aligned. In my experience, what you have does not define happiness. Living a luxurious life doesn’t bring it because many things trigger it. You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it is better to listen to what it has to say.” — Paulo Coehlo 2. Take Care of Yourself Do you want to know how I finally discovered that “happiness was an inside job” (aka figured out how to be happy)? Unfortunately, too many people spend their entire lives chasing transitory moments of happiness. Chasing happiness is the very thing that makes so many people unhappy.

The Happiness Trap’, which has been described as empowering and practical, introduces ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). ACT is a relatively recent approach to psychotherapy that has been developed out of leading research in behavioral psychology. All mental activities — sights, sounds, thoughts, emotions, and both conscious and unconscious processes — are the result of firing neurons. Whilst we rarely question these truisms, most of us hold onto the idea that we will feel truly happy when we earn more money, or find love, or discover success. ‘ The Happiness Hypothesis’ examines traditional wisdom by looking to modern science. In our moments of great deliberation we have two choices: love or fear. Love is not often the easy choice. Love can challenge us. It can make us feel uneasy. Love can actually elicit deep pain.It starts with each and every one of us, making a choice to be happy regardless of our circumstances, regardless of situations, regardless of what evidence we have to the contrary. Easier said than done, I hear you say.
